“When my son started therapy, I was concerned with his lack of communication skills as well as peer interaction. I feel like I really did get a lot from my therapy program, much more that I could have hoped for. I learned ways to create opportunities for my son to communicate such as offering a choice. I have gained tools for dealing with tantrums, and preventing tantrums when saying “no” by giving a “yes” alternative. I have also learned the importance of waiting to allow my child time to process and answer. Language has exploded and I have Ellen and the communication group to attribute that to. Throughout the 10 months in the communication group, we have gone from observing peers and only playing independently to tolerating other children and now to engaging peers to ask to play a specific game or with a certain toy.”
